About us
My name is Jason Abercrombie. I founded Abercrombie Hot Peppers in the wake of some major influences; a life-long fascination with plant biology, a love for growing a wide variety of plants as a M.S. and Ph. D grad student and postdoctoral researcher, starting a hot sauce club with my students as a high school biology teacher, and the satisfaction of massive positive feedback from customers who loved our hot sauce. My professional background is in the research field of plant biotechnology. I earned a Ph.D in Plant Sciences from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2007, and after the economic downturn of 2008 and two years of postdoctoral research, I started teaching high school biology and research courses. I have been inspired from student excitement and enthusiasm for growing peppers in the classroom, greenhouse, and our school garden. In the spring of 2020, my friend and renowned local chef, Jeffrey DeAlejandro (owner / chef at OliBea), kindly offered his kitchen for a place for me to cook and bottle our sauce, which allowed me to attain the permitting required to legally sell our sauce. He basically enabled our business and is truly one of the most generous people I know. Recently, with the passing of the TN Food Freedom Act, we now are able to cook and bottle our products in our home kitchen using the same food safety guidelines.
We are located in Kingston, TN. In the picture below, you can see my beautiful family; they are patient and enthusiastic partners in this endeavor. My family and I are looking to provide some quality hot pepper products to the broader community. Thanks for your support!!
